Founded in Illinois in 1931, Allstate Insurance is the largest publicly traded property and casualty insurer in America. Not long after its debut, in 1953, Allstate expanded into Canada, with their headquarters located in Markham, Ontario. Allstate auto insurance is available to drivers that live in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
What kind of insurance does Allstate offer?
Standard Allstate car insurance policies include third party liability and accident benefits, which are the minimum insurance requirements by law.
Third-party liability
Third-party liability covers you in the event that you’re at fault in an accident that results in another person’s injury or death. Third-party liability will also protect you against legal claims should you cause damage to another person’s property with your car. In all Canadian provinces, it’s mandatory to have a minimum of $200,000 in third-party liability.
Accident benefits
Accident benefits are in place to protect you from paying out of pocket to cover the cost of medical and other related expenses after a car accident. For example, accident benefits will cover attendant care expenses, loss of income, funeral expenses, and more. Accident benefits aren’t mandatory in Quebec as they’re already provided to all residents by the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ).
Does Allstate offer optional car insurance?
When it comes to purchasing auto insurance, many drivers choose to opt for additional coverage for enhanced protection and peace of mind. Allstate offers their customers the following options:
Collision coverage
As the name suggests, collision coverage will protect you when you’re involved in a collision with another car or object. Whether you’re in an accident with another vehicle or collide with an object, the cost of repairs will be covered. Keeping depreciation in mind, collision coverage will cover your repairs up to the value of the car, less the deductible.
Comprehensive coverage
Comprehensive coverage comes in when your vehicle has been damaged from events other than a collision. For example, comprehensive coverage will cover fire, wind, vandalism and theft.
Specified perils
With specified perils, you can add coverage for specific risks.
All perils
In this case, Allstate combines collision and comprehensive coverage.
Loss-of-use
Those who purchase loss-of-use coverage will be reimbursed for other means of transportation should they be without a car (whether it’s being repaired or replaced). This is only applicable if the damage is covered by collision coverage, comprehensive coverage or one of their specified perils. This can cover the cost of taking taxis, public transportation or a rental car.
Damage to non-owned vehicles
Allstate provides protection for when you cause damage to a vehicle other than your own, whether it be a rental car or friends/family.
Waiver of Depreciation
If your vehicle is under four years old and you’re in an accident or your vehicle is damaged due to an insured risk, Allstate won’t consider depreciation when compensating you for the cost of a new car.
Claim forgiveness
With claims forgiveness, you can file a claim without worrying about your premium increasing.
