About Farmers' Mutual
The Farmers’ Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company was established in June of 1895. In 1967, the company changed their name to Farmers’ Mutual Fire Insurance Company (Lindsay); in 1997, they took out the word “fire” in their name. In the late 1970s the company started selling car insurance products. Their auto insurance policies now make up almost half of their annual written premiums. Farmers’ Mutual has grown significantly over the years – they had 197 policyholders in their first year in business and today they are the largest farm mutual insurance provider in the province of Ontario. They have around 40,000 policyholders now and assets of more than $150,000,000. Farmers’ Mutual Insurance is affiliated with the Insurance Institute of Canada, The Ontario Mutual Insurance Association, The Fire Mutuals Guarantee Fund, The Canadian Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, and The Insurance Bureau of Canada. The Chairman of Farmers’ Mutual Insurance is Mike Whittamore. He is the President of Whittamore Farms and was once President of the Ontario Berry Growers Association.
The company has their headquarters at 336 Angeline Street South in Lindsay, Ontario. You can talk to a representative from Farmers’ Mutual by calling 1-800-461-0310 (toll free) or 705-324-2146.
Broker commissions
Farmers’ Mutual Insurance works with a number of insurance brokers in Ontario to find you the coverage that you require. These brokers receive compensation through commission payments; these commissions are based on the premiums they sell. For example, a Farmers’ Mutual broker will receive 12.5% of the total premiums when they sell a private passenger vehicle insurance policy. They also receive 12.5% when they sell a commercial automobile policy.
Auto insurance
If you’re looking for auto insurance discounts then Farmers’ Mutual has you covered. They provide discounts for retired people, young drivers, senior citizens, multi-car homes, students not living at home, and people with short commutes. They also have a special “bundling” discount if you plan on insuring both your car and your home with Farmers’ Mutual. Combining these policies will show your loyalty to Farmers’ Mutual and it will also give them more business – so they will want to reward you for that patronage. For more information about these discounts you should speak to a broker of Farmers’ Mutual Insurance.
