Grey Power Car Insurance

Founded in 1993, Grey Power Insurance was the first company in Canada to offer discounted car insurance to the mature market. In 2015, they rebranded as GP Car and Home and were brought under the belairdirect umbrella. Upon this acquisition, Grey Power was able to grow, simplify, and enhance their operations and customer service. Remaining true to their core offerings, customers can still expect the same product offerings and catered service that they received from Grey Power in the past.

Grey Power Insurance Coverage

Car insurance is a necessity for all drivers in Canada as it provides financial protection should you be involved in a collision resulting in physical or bodily damage. While many dread making their car insurance payments, it is well worth it once you compare the cost to the potential out of pocket expenses you could have in the event of an accident.

In every province in Canada, it is mandatory to have a minimum of $200,000 in third party liability, accident benefits, uninsured automobile coverage, and direct compensation property damage. Grey Power offers both mandatory and optional additional coverage options to their customers.

Standard Coverage

While a standard insurance policy only provides the basics when it comes to coverage, many drivers choose to purchase additional coverage for their policy.

  • Liability Insurance: This protects you if you’re responsible for injuring someone or damaging someone else’s property
  • Accident Benefits: Offers financial benefits while you’re recovering from a car accident
  • Uninsured Automobile Coverage: Uninsured automobile coverage provides coverage for personal injury or property damage caused by an uninsured driver or a hit-and-run
  • Direct Compensation Property Damage: Financial protection if the other driver causes a collision and damages your car and its contents

Optional Coverage

Grey Power insurance offers a variety of additional coverage options for added protection and peace of mind.

  • Responsible Driver Guarantee/Accident Forgiveness: Allows you to cause one accident without it resulting in an increase in your premium at the time of renewal
  • Autocomfort: Enhance the coverage benefits offered through your standard car insurance policy
  • Collision Insurance Coverage: Covers costs of damages should you be involved in a collision
  • Comprehensive Insurance Coverage: Covers costs of damages beyond your control such as theft, weather, fire, falling objects or vandalism
  • Emergency Roadside Assistance
  • Rental car if you are unable to use your vehicle
  • Waiver of Depreciation: Any insured replacement or repair within the first two years will not be subject to depreciation

As it’s always better to be safe than sorry, a majority of drivers will opt for additional coverage. When it comes to the minimum car insurance requirements in Canada, it only provides a thin layer of protection. While adding extra coverage to your policy will involve a higher annual premium, you will still end up paying less in the long run should you be involved in an event where damage is caused.

Driving Tips for Seniors

Monitor Your Health: As you age, it’s important that you have your vision, hearing, and overall health checked regularly. If you wear glasses or hearing aids, make sure your prescriptions are always up to date. If you have any problems with your vision, it is recommended that you avoid driving at night.

Familiarize Yourself With Your Route: Certain intersections can cause obstacles for senior drivers. Try to map out your route so that you can avoid risky turns and busy roads.

Keep Your Distance: Make sure to keep enough distance between your car and the vehicle in front of you. Remember the three second rule.

Adjust Your Car: Raise your seat for better visibility and use power steering and brakes for better control. If your vehicle has a manual transmission, consider switching to an automatic transmission for improved concentration on the road.

Maintain Your Vehicle: Reduce your chance of a roadside breakdown by having your vehicle checked regularly.

Brush Up On Your Skills: You can sharpen your skills by enrolling in defensive driving classes or a refresher course.
