Performance Review

Treadwear

Kumho has masterminded a new dual silicone carbon tread mixture into an asymmetric tread design that is intended to allow the tire to be cooler for longer treadwear and increased fuel efficiency. It likewise offers extra grip on dry, wet, or snow-covered roadways.

With four thick circumferential channels and notched shoulders that provide reliable traction on wet roads and highways,  Kumho has also added transverse sipes around the tread that give thousands of gripping edges for a better grasp on snow and ice.

Dry Performance

This tire provides excellent dry traction and ride comfort.  Dry traction rates high, while the steering response was just under this.  Cornering stability in dry conditions is also rated well. This tire comes with a T-speed rating.

Wet Performance

As for wet conditions, wet traction was good, while the hydroplaning rated just a smidge under this. One customer stated he could “definitely can feel the difference in cornering and steering responsiveness.”  Another buyer gave a 5 out of 5 on all dry, wet, and winter conditions, stating that he sees all kinds of weather but the Kumho Solus TA11 can handle it all.

Snow Performance

In winter weather, it did not fare as well but still did OK.  Deep snow traction was slightly better than light snow traction with ice traction in the middle of these.

Comfort

We were impressed with the ride comfort as the Kumho Solus TA11 tires provided a smooth and comfortable ride. Potholes will not be an issue as the Escot casing will provide shock-absorbing qualities.   Noise levels prove to be low as well.

How is their warranty?

With the Kumho tread life warranty, your Solus TA11 tires will be warranted for 6 years or 75, 000 mile. This will only apply to the original owner and vehicle upon which the set of tires was initially installed.   Proof of purchase and vehicle mileage on the original installation date will be required when the claim is turned in. The buyer is also obligated to prove that the tires were properly inflated, rotated, and aligned, replacing worn suspension components as necessary.

Uniformity Warranty for the tires is for the first 2/32″ of wear.

A workmanship and materials warranty provides 6 years or free replacement on the first 2/32″ of wear, then is prorated to final 2/32″ remaining depth.

Under the manufacturer’s road hazard warranty, your Solus TA11 tires are covered for 1 year or the first 2/32″ of wear. With this warranty, complete roadside assistance is also provided.  This is good for tire changing, fuel recovery, battery jumping, and lockout.

How much do they cost?

The Kumho Solus TA11 starts at about $52.  You can often find promotions, codes, coupons, and other deals for Kumho tires. Make sure to check out the Kumho website to see if any rebates are being offered at the time of your purchase.  One customer said these were the  “Best quality vs price tire purchase I have ever made. Exceed any Cooper or Goodyear tires I have ever owned.”

Positive Customer Reviews

"I purchased these tires about 20k miles ago (1 year) and have been happy with the ride and performance in all 4 seasons. The wear is not noticeable as I rotate the tires every 5k miles. My car has 235k miles on it and these will be the last set I purchase for this car and would definitely purchase these again. The last set of tires were Michelins and these are half the costs and have the same performance. The tires do have an inside/outside face so make sure you notify the installer."

Negative Customer Reviews

"I generally love Kumho tires, never had a bad experience before this set. This is a pretty great tire all around, except now that they've got a little wear, they're slipping like crazy in the rain.I've got a little more than 10,000 miles on them, and the tread still looks like new. These should easily be a 50,000-75,000 mile tire, but in the wet, after they've got a little wear on them, they slide around like nothing I've ever driven before. I've gotten stuck in light rain! Just spin and spin trying to get up a hill. I've been stuck in snow a few times, but I've never been stuck at the bottom of a hill in light rain on a 70-degree day.The first winter they performed just fine in the ice, snow, and freezing rain. But after putting a few miles on them, I feel I've got to replace them before the next winter.Everything else about this tire is pretty good. Noise level pretty decent, handling pretty decent, wear is even, and price is great. Maybe mine are defective somehow."
