Treadwear

With four circumferential grooves and lateral notches, hydroplaning resistance is provided by removing water from under the footprint.   The engineered sipes intensify the number of biting edges required to enhance wet road and wintertime traction.

The all-season tread material is developed into a five-rib symmetric design which draws attention to the constant center rib flanked by notched intermediate ribs and large shoulder blocks.  This presents predictable handling, year-round traction, and even wear.

A consumer said that he was very impressed with the tread design as he did not spin all over the place.

Dry Performance

Dry traction fared very well on the Kumho Solus TA31 tires.  Both steering response and cornering stability proved to be good when the roads were dry.

Wet Performance

The wet performance receives average marks on both wet traction and hydroplaning resistance. One driver stated, “Tires grip the road tight. I have to press the brake gradually. I work for Uber/Lyft and I recommend these tires to friends. Perfect for driving all day”.

Snow Performance

On snowy roads, light snow traction was the best, but still could be improved upon greatly.  Deep snow traction and ice traction scored the same but did not fare all that well.

Comfort

One buyer said this about the comfort of the Kumho Solus TA31, “These tires look amazing. My ride is amazing and super smooth and best of all the price was awesome. Lowest price around. I love these tires and will definitely buy them again when I need to replace them.”

How is their warranty?

Kumho offers a 6-year or 60,000-mile tread guarantee for the Solus TA31. Should front and back tires be different sizes, the miles are reduced by half.  Tire uniformity is guaranteed for the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear.

Materials and workmanship are granted for 6-years and include free replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. A prorated amount is offered for the remaining time or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.

One driver was pleased with the warranty he received with his Kumho tires.  He said they were covered by a 12-month Road Hazard protection warranty which he was able to use after damage to the sidewall of one of his tires.  He received a full refund on the single tire and was able to purchase a new one.

How much do they cost?

The Kumho Solus TA31 generally starts at about $58.  Many times, there will be coupons, deals, or promotions that can be used with these tires.  You can also check the Kumho website to see if there are any rebates at the time of purchase.

Positive Reviews

"Purchased these tires for my Prius in 5/2020 and they are a great bargain for the price. I did note about a 10% loss in MPG savings (I am averaging 40+mpg vs 45mpg on my Goodyear Premier Eagle tires). The ride is much quieter and very smooth compared to my older tires with much less road noise and I'm running at 40lb PSI. So far they have been great after 6 months. Also, they are covered by a 12-month Road Hazard protection warranty which I was able to use after recent damage to the sidewall of one of my tires. I received a full refund on the single tire and was able to purchase a new one.Definitely a tire I will consider for other cars when it comes time to replace."

Negative Reviews

"Wow, what garbage. They were original equipment, and they seemed fine for the first few thousand miles, but they quickly deteriorated. Sure, at 16,000 miles they still had tread, but the performance on wet roads was so bad that I bought new tires to replace them because I no longer felt safe driving on them. Trying to pull away from a stop, they ALWAYS spun before gripping, and when approaching a stop or a turn on a wet road, I always slowed down and allowed a LOT of extra space because they were certain to slide. Pure and simple, these things are just dangerous. Well, they MIGHT be okay if you live in a desert where it never rains or snows."
